As the summer season draws to a close here at Jurassic Bees, we’ve been hard at work preparing our hives for the colder months. Nestled along the stunning Jurassic Coast in Dorset, our bees have had a productive season, and now it’s time to ensure they’re ready to thrive through the winter.
We’re pleased to report that all of our hives have successfully completed their varroa treatments, ensuring that our colonies are healthy and strong. We’ve also been closely monitoring the hives' food stores, and all of them have reached their ideal winter weights. This means the bees will have plenty of resources to sustain them until spring.
While most of the nectar flows have come to an end, the late ivy flow has provided one last opportunity for our bees to forage. In fact, our Buckfast nucleus colonies have been incredibly busy gathering the last of the ivy nectar, ensuring they top off their stores with this valuable autumn resource. You can check out the activity for yourself in our latest video.
We’re excited to see our colonies in great shape as we head into the winter months, and we’ll continue to care for them diligently, so they emerge healthy and productive next spring. Stay tuned for more updates, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions about your own colonies as we approach the winter season!
