Your nuc arrives on six standard Langstroth brood frames. Check your Flow Hive model, brood-frame size and depth before ordering.

Start with the wooden brood frames

The bees, queen and brood move into the brood box. The Flow honey frames sit in the super above, which you add when the colony is ready.

Flow Hive 2 and 2+ use Langstroth deep brood boxes. The number of Flow honey frames differs from the brood-frame capacity: check your model’s specification, especially for older or modified equipment.

Bees for Flow Hive — What You Receive

Your colony includes four frames of brood in all stages, two frames of stores and a mated F1 queen. Supplied on standard Langstroth brood frames in a new Paynes poly nuc, it gives you a working colony to transfer into your compatible Flow Hive, with practical support as it grows.

  1. Your colony comes in a new Paynes six-frame Langstroth poly nuc, prepared with ventilation for transport. Keep the box for future colonies or splits, with suitable equipment and care. The Langstroth frames and wax comb are less than eight months old.

  2. We select for calm handling and care for our colonies with regular inspections, routine health checks and responsible Varroa management.

  3. Choose F1 Buckfast or Carniolan. Your queen is UK-mated, laying and marked for her mating year, so she is easier to spot during inspections.

  4. Eggs, larvae and sealed brood across four frames, with the worker bees caring for them. New bees will emerge as your colony develops.

  5. Two frames of honey and pollen stores support the colony as it settles in. Keep checking its food levels and feed when needed.

  6. Charlie and Lorraine are here to help with installation, feeding, inspections and queen concerns. Get practical advice from our family bee farm in Dorset, with phone or Microsoft Teams support arranged when needed.

Choose when you want to start, reserve your colony, and we’ll help you prepare for its arrival.

    Choose your season

    Check your Flow Hive brood box, then choose April, May or June. Pick F1 Buckfast or Carniolan and Posted or Collection on the product page.

  2. Step 2

    Reserve with £50

    £330 total. Pay the £280 balance by BACS at least 28 days before your agreed delivery or collection. The deposit is subject to cancellation terms.

  3. Step 3

    We care for your bees

    Your colony stays in our Dorset apiaries while it develops. We check the queen, brood and food stores, and prepare your bees when they’re ready to leave us.

  4. Step 4

    Receive, settle & grow

    We confirm a date when your colony is ready and conditions are suitable. Use our Flow Hive setup guide and your model’s instructions. Contact us when you need practical help.

Flow Hive Bees — Delivery, Payment and FAQs

How do delivery and collection work?

Free mainland UK delivery uses Royal Mail Special Delivery by 1pm. For posted nucs, choose a preferred Tuesday-to-Friday delivery day. Dorset hand delivery and Saturday collection are by arrangement. We confirm the date in advance and rearrange if weather or colony readiness makes dispatch unsuitable.

What do I pay now, and when is the balance due?

Each Flow Hive-compatible nuc costs £330 in total. The £50 reservation deposit is non-refundable subject to our cancellation terms. Pay the remaining £280 by BACS at least 28 days before your agreed delivery or collection date.

Can I start a Flow Hive as a beginner?

Yes, with a compatible hive ready and training or mentoring in place. You will still need brood inspections, swarm management, suitable space, feeding when needed and Varroa management. The Flow harvesting system does not replace caring for the colony. We provide practical support as you learn.

What should I do when my bees arrive?

Keep the nuc upright, secure, ventilated and out of direct sun. Place it on its hive stand and cover the vented roof against rain. Allow 30 minutes to settle before opening the entrance, then wait 24 hours before transfer, following the guidance supplied. Move the frames into a compatible brood box in their original order and add the matching frames needed to fill it.

Do I need a special type of bee for a Flow Hive?

You can choose F1 Buckfast or Carniolan honey bees. The important fit is between the supplied Langstroth brood frames and your hive’s brood box. Both choices come with a UK-mated, laying queen; choose the queen line you prefer on the product page.

When can I add the Flow super and harvest honey?

Let the colony establish its brood box first. Add the Flow super when the colony is strong enough and forage conditions are suitable, following your model’s readiness checks. A first-season honey crop is not guaranteed. Feed only when the colony needs it, and do not feed syrup while producing honey for harvest.

What if I find a problem on the first inspection?

Our voluntary five-day initial-inspection guarantee runs from delivery or collection. Check the queen is present and the colony matches your order, and report concerns within five days. We assess issues individually and provide an appropriate remedy. Transferring the nuc does not invalidate this guarantee or your statutory rights; subsequent husbandry remains your responsibility.

What if I need to cancel?

Before dispatch or collection, we retain the £50 deposit and refund the rest, including within the final three weeks, with no extra late-cancellation charge. Deductions are limited to reasonable net losses after mitigation and reduced or waived where appropriate. No deposit is retained where a full refund is legally required. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
