A queen is an important choice

UK-mated or early-season imported?

UK-mated queens

Our designated UK-mated Buckfast and Carniolan queens are raised and mated in Dorset. Availability depends on suitable mating conditions and queen readiness.

Imported early-season queens

The early-season Buckfast queen is mated abroad and imported. This provides an earlier option before our UK-mated queens are ready.

Prepare for introduction

A mated queen still needs a suitable receiving colony and careful introduction. Confirm the colony is genuinely queenless; acceptance is not automatic.

From choosing to arrival

Choose. Plan delivery. Prepare your colony.

  1. Step 1

    Choose your mated queen

Compare the breeding line and mating origin. Ask Charlie if you need help matching an option to your colony and timing.

  2. Step 2

    Choose a delivery date

Open the product, select a month and an available delivery date, then order. The selected date is the intended delivery date.

  3. Step 3

    Prepare your colony

Confirm that the colony is genuinely queenless, check for competing queen cells and have adequate stores. Receive and inspect your queen promptly, then follow the introduction guidance.

Live-bee dispatch depends on queen readiness and suitable conditions. We will contact you if your planned date needs to change.

Before you order

Mated queen questions, answered.

Are all your mated queens UK-mated?

No. Our designated UK-mated Buckfast and Carniolan queens mate in Dorset. The early-season imported Buckfast queen is mated abroad. The product cards and product pages make the distinction clear.

Why choose a mated queen rather than a virgin?

A mated queen has completed mating before dispatch, so your colony does not have to wait for local mating flights. This can suit requeening, but careful colony preparation and introduction are still essential.

Which mated queens are available for UK delivery?

Compare the live product cards above, then select an available delivery date on the product page. UK-mated and imported options have different seasonal schedules.

How are mated queens delivered?

Your marked queen travels in a secure cage with attendant bees and fondant, inside protective postal packaging. Check the individual product for delivery details and charges before ordering.

Is postage included?

UK-mated Buckfast queens include Royal Mail Special Delivery, as stated on their product page. Check the other products and any delivery charge shown at checkout before paying.

How do I introduce a mated queen?

First confirm that the receiving colony is genuinely queenless and free from competing queen cells. Follow the supplied introduction guidance and avoid unnecessary disturbance. Ask for help if you are uncertain about the colony’s condition.

What guarantee applies?

Live-arrival and mated-queen drone-laying replacement cover are subject to our published terms. Introduction and acceptance are not guaranteed. Inspect promptly on arrival and contact us immediately if there is a problem.

Can I get advice before ordering?

Yes. Tell Charlie about your colony, preferred timing and experience. We can help you compare suitable options and plan preparation before your queen arrives.
